England defender Eric Dier has joked that he would play goalkeeper if called up by Gareth Southgate during the World Cup.
The Tottenham star spoke ahead of the opening match of the Three Lions World Cup against Iran on Monday.
Asked if he had enjoyed playing on the right side of defense under Antonio Conte in recent Premier League games, Dier said: “Yes, obviously I have played in the middle for a long time, for me it was a different experience.” . (playing on the right side of the defense).
“But I played in that position and with Pochettino when I played for Tottenham in the back five, so it wasn’t a completely new position for me.” I think I can play in any position really in defense.
‘I’ll play goalkeeper if necessary, it’s a World Cup! I’ll take any chance I get. I feel completely comfortable in any defensive position. I believe in myself to play anywhere.
