Man, 37, ‘stabbed his ex to death and hit her with a baseball bat for her three children who were eventually covered in her blood’

A man has been arrested and charged with murder after allegedly stabbing his ex-girlfriend and brutally beating her with a baseball bat for her children.
The alleged beating of 37-year-old Stephen Craig Phillips was so serious that the children would have had blood on their faces.
Jennifer McCollum, 34, was stabbed repeatedly while her three children were in their trailer park in Ballantine, Montana.
By the time police arrived on the scene, McCollum was already dead and lying in a pool of her own blood.
The affidavit as seen by NBC8 describes how the three children aged nine months, four and nine, all had dried blood on their hands, faces and feet.
When the investigators arrived, one of the children is said to have said, “Hello, my mother was murdered. Steven killed my mother. ‘

A large kitchen knife would also have been found on the floor with blood on it.
Phillips, who has been charged with murder cases, pleaded innocent in Yellowstone County District Court.
Phillips’s mother, who lives next door to the victim, also told police that her son had an on-off relationship with McCollum and that he came home under blood on May 15 and said, “I’m sorry … I have it settled ‘ KTVQ reports.

An autopsy on McCollum revealed that she had stab wounds on most of her body, multiple blunt trauma wounds, cuts to the skull, and broken wrists – injuries to which she eventually succumbed. Her hair also contained blood and glass.
Investigators eventually found blood-stained clothing at McCollum’s house.
Delegates were also told by McCollum’s current boyfriend, who revealed that Phillips had harassed them in the weeks leading up to his girlfriend’s death.
