The ECB has advanced the start time of the fifth and final test between England and India in Edgbaston, repeated this week, by half an hour to accommodate television audiences in the subcontinent.

Unlike the current game against New Zealand, the game will start at 10:30am as Ben Stokes’ team tries to tame a streak that has been suspended for 10 months due to India’s decision to withdraw from the original game in Manchester last September over Covid concerns.

After the first Test was tied, India led 1-0 in the series before England held their visitors back in the third Test, winning by an innings and 76 runs.

However, India won the fourth test to take a 2-1 lead in the final game, which starts on Friday.

England have been under new management since previous games, with Brendon McCullum and Ben Stokes taking over as coach and captain from Chris Silverwood and Joe Root respectively.

India captain Rohit Sharma has doubts before the match after testing positive for Covid on Saturday.

The four and a half hour time difference means that the official hours of play will be in Indian TV terms from 3pm to 10pm, although there is still a chance that the shutdown will be 10:30pm each night as teams are given a half hour of grace. to complete the allotment of 90 overs per day.

Test matches in the UK usually start at 11am to reduce the chances of early morning dew tipping the balance between bat and ball too far in the bowlers’ favor.
