Henry Arundell – England’s breakthrough star this season – has signed a long-term contract with London Irish.

The 19-year-old has stepped onto the scene to earn international roster with Eddie Jones’ England on the back of a string of great displays for Irishmen.

He was first named to an England training squad in May and was backed by Jones to fight for a World Cup place ahead of the 2023 tournament.

Arundell has quickly built a reputation for scoring sensational individual attempts with his 114m try for Irish against Toulon in the European Challenge Cup, his best yet.

He will be part of the England squad that will tour Australia this summer and this week he won the Premiership’s Discovery of the Year award at the competition’s end-of-season dinner.

“It was a no brainer to extend my time at London Irish,” Arundell said.

“The club has given me so much in my young career and I want to repay their trust in me in the years to come.

“With the squad and coaches we have at London Irish, the future is exciting and I’m very happy to have the chance to be a part of it.”

Arundell has made 14 appearances for Irish this season, scoring seven times. He was part of England’s last two training teams.

He began life in Hazelwood at the age of 14 and entered the Irish Academy while studying at Harrow School. He went on to help them win the Under-18 Academy League title.

Arundell made his senior Irish debut in a 29-20 win against Saracens in the Premiership Rugby Cup last November and has since been featured regularly in both the Premiership and Europe.

His performance in Irish’s draw with Wasps brought him to the attention of England head coach Jones.

Declan Kidney, Irish Rugby Director, said: ‘Henry has given a good picture of himself during his first season at senior rugby.

“He has worked hard on the training ground and we have seen his efforts pay off. “We are delighted that his development at London Irish will continue and we are excited to help him on his journey.”
