A ninth player has been withdrawn from England’s squad for the Nations League matches against Greece and the Republic of Ireland.
Eight members of Lee Carsley’s original squad withdrew on Monday, and on Wednesday night it was confirmed that another player will not travel to Athens.
Interim boss Carsley reacted by calling a limitless player into his team.
Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite has been training away from the main team this week and will now return to his club after failing to overcome a problem that has troubled him in the opening weeks of the campaign.
He has been replaced in the squad by Liverpool’s Jarell Quansah.
Branthwaite joins Trent Alexander-Arnold, Declan Rice, Bukayo Saka, Cole Palmer, Phil Foden, Jack Grealish, Levi Colwill and Aaron Ramsdale in withdrawing from the England squad this week.
