England fans have urged Gareth Southgate to be bold and fast-track a Championship star into the squad for Euro 2024, in case Luke Shaw is not fit in time.

The Manchester United full-back faces a race against time to be fit for the Euros, as he battles to overcome his thigh injury and then get enough club minutes under his belt to justify his inclusion in the squad.

The 28-year-old has long been Southgate’s first-choice left-back, but with With Ben Chilwell, Kieran Trippier and Joe Gomez available as substitutes, Southgate may not want to take the risk unless Shaw can prove his fitness.

But some Three Lions supporters on social media believe the answer to Southgate’s woes can be found at Championship leaders Ipswich in the form of Leif Davis.

The 24-year-old has two goals and a staggering 19 assists for Ipswich in the Championship this season and has started all 37 of his league appearances.

While Shaw and Chilwell have been beset by injuries this season, Davis has only missed three games in the Championship.

He missed the defeat against Southampton in September with an ankle injury and was not in the squad for the draws against QPR and Stoke on December 29 and January 1.

And his performances have convinced fans that he would be the ideal left-back for Southgate.

“I don’t care what they say, Leif Davis deserves an England call-up if Luke Shaw is not fit,” the EFL Published account posted on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter.

Several other users echoed the sentiment, with one writing: ‘Leif Davis. Adequate player. I wouldn’t be surprised if he soon appears in the England conversation.

Another added: “Leif Davis should be in the England squad or at least given a chance,” and a third suggested: “Leif Davis at England left-back if Luke Shaw is fit.”

As expected, Newcastle-born Davis received support from the Toon Army, with one fan writing: “Leif Davis is England’s next left-back. Hopefully it’s Newcastle next season as he’s a Geordie.”

Meanwhile, another user believes the Ipswich defender will be a Premier League star next season, regardless of whether the Tractor Boys are promoted or not.

“Whether Ipswich go up or not, Leif Davis will be playing in the Premier League next year. He contributes to so many goals for a left-back.”

Davis scored his second goal of the season on Easter Monday as the Tractor Boys came from behind to beat Southampton 3-2 at Portman Road, with substitute Jeremy Sarmiento scoring the winner in the 97th minute.

Davis put Ipswich ahead early in the first half with a thunderous first-half left-footed shot, which was immediately canceled out by Che Adams’ equaliser.

Adam Armstrong put Southampton, who started the day in fourth place, ahead midway through the first half before Nathan Broadhead leveled the scores with just over 20 minutes remaining.

Sarmiento then scored with virtually the last kick of the game to cause chaos at Portman Road and send Ipswich back to the top of the table with six games left.

The Tractor Boys are chasing back-to-back promotions and are one point ahead of Leeds, with Leicester two points behind in third with a game in hand.
