England secured their place in the World Cup quarter-finals by beating Nigeria on penalties after drawing 0-0 in 120 minutes of action on Monday morning.
It was Georgia Stanway who took England’s first penalty. She looked confident walking to the spot, but she missed her target, sending it off the left post.
However, England were handed a lifeline as Nigerian international Desire Oparanozie also failed to score and fired her shot wide of the post.
Beth England took the next step for the Lionesses and shot the ball into the roof of the net to see Sarina Wiegman take the lead.
Michelle Alozie was next for Nigeria and dodged the bar, giving England full control of the penalty shootout.

Rachel Daly capitalized on Alozie’s miss and scored from the penalty spot, firing a rocket shot into the top left corner.
Rasheedat Ajibade managed to find the back of the net to put Nigeria on the scoreboard before Alex Greenwood made the move for England.
Greenwood slipped the ball into the bottom right corner to see England win 3–1 and move closer to a place in the quarter-final.
Christy Ucheibe kept Nigeria’s hopes alive by converting from the penalty spot. But, Chloe Kelly ended the penalty shootout with England’s fourth and final penalty.
