He's on a honeymoon.

He revealed how Jussie is being written from the sixth and final season of the Fox show in an interview with TVLine on Friday.

It comes after Empire co-creator Lee Daniels confirmed that the 37-year-old would not return for the sixth and final season earlier this month.

The character was last seen when he got married and left during his honeymoon.

& # 39; Jamal takes a sabbatical from the family, & # 39; said Brett, & he does not want to get caught up in the Lyon family drama, which fits very well with his view of last season – that [the family business] should be something the family gets away from. & # 39;

As a result, & # 39; Jamal and Kai have decided to stay in London. & # 39;

In February, Jussie was cut off from the last episodes of season 5, due to ongoing legal problems.

In January, he reported that he had been the victim of an alleged hate crime with the Chicago police and was subsequently charged with 16 counts of disorderly conduct after filing a false police report.

He maintained his innocence and in March all charges against him were withdrawn.

His castmates including Taraji P. Henson, Terrence Howard, Bryshere Y. Gray, Trai Byers, Gabourey Sidibe and Nicole Ari Parker all signed a letter in which he begged to return.

It read in part: & # 39; He is friendly. He is compassionate. He is honest and, above all, full of integrity.

& # 39; He is also innocent and no longer subject to legal uncertainty because the criminal prosecution against him has been withdrawn. & # 39;

But Brett had no influence. Empire returns on September 24.
