This is the emotional moment a partially deaf man turned on his hearing aid for the first time and told loved ones he didn’t realise what he was “missing all this time”.
David Tester, 36, had been having hearing problems for two years before he got tested and discovered he had the hearing of a 60-year-old.
However, at that time the audiologist suggested that his hearing was not bad enough to require any further action and that he should simply continue to monitor it. A year later, David’s family noticed that his hearing had worsened and his doctors agreed.
The footage shows the moment Mr Tester had his hearing aid turned on for the first time in his audiologist’s office, with tears in his eyes as he was overcome with emotion.
Tester, a director at a marketing firm in Hackney, London, said: “I tried the hearing aid on in the office. The audiologist played loud restaurant noises so we could simulate the environment.

An emotional clip showed the moment he finally got his hearing aid fitted and was overwhelmed by what he could now hear.
“When she turned on the hearing aid, I could suddenly hear her through the noise. That’s when I got excited because I realized what I had been missing all this time.”
Mr. Tester began noticing hearing loss in 2022 and She found it difficult to hear people sitting directly next to her in noisy, crowded spaces.
It is unknown what caused his hearing loss, but Mr. Tester believes that It’s due to the nights spent directly next to the club’s speakers.
Mr Tester added: ‘I’ve spent quite a bit of time in nightclubs so I assume the speakers on those nights will have done some damage.
“The only thing I really know is that the audiologist said that the hearing in my left ear specifically had deteriorated, which is why I’m getting the hearing aid.”
Speaking about her gradual hearing loss, she added: “It was a gradual change so I didn’t notice how much it had altered my experiences.

“I spend a lot of time in crowded environments, like restaurants and bars, and I remember feeling like I was asking people to repeat themselves. I could tell something wasn’t right, but I didn’t know how much I was missing.”
Mr. Tester is not yet living with his hearing aid, as he ordered it on July 25th and is still awaiting its arrival.
She said: “I’m looking forward to using it in my daily life. It’s a big step considering it costs £1,800 as the NHS range wasn’t appropriate for the type of situations I’ll need the help in. But I’ve already ordered it and it will arrive in just over a week.”
