Emmerdale’s Lisa Riley has admitted to “self-medicating with alcohol” following the death of her mother.
The 48-year-old actress, who gave up alcohol nine years ago, added that she “drank two bottles of wine a night” before giving up alcohol.
Speaking on Thursday’s Lorraine show, Lisa, who plays Mandy Dingle in the ITV soap, told presenter Ranvir Singh: ‘I prefer myself now that I’m sober.
“I self-medicated with alcohol after losing my mother. A bottle and a half, two bottles of Malbec helped me in those moments. It was a game I played.”
She previously said she “blamed” the holidays for not spending quality time with her mother, who died of cancer in 2012.

The actress shared her excitement at confirming her future on the show in a recent interview with Woman’s Weekly magazine.
She said: ‘I’ve just signed a new long contract and I’m very happy.
‘Paddy and Mandy bring a lot of joy to the show. You can rely on them to bring that little bit of fun and I love that.
‘It’s been 25 years since they first got married and I’d like to think I’ll still be on the show in another 25 years. I love it.’
