‘I lost everything, including myself’: Former Emmerdale actress Alicya Eyo reveals she quietly went to rehab for alcoholism after leaving hit soap

Former Bad Girls star Alicya Eyo entered alcoholism rehab after leaving Emmerdale in 2015.

The actress, 45, admitted she had ‘lost everything’ at one point, but she was able to figure out ‘why’ [she] did what [she] did ‘during a period in rehab.

She said, “I ended up losing everything, including myself. That was the main thing. So I went to rehab. They helped me figure out why I did what I did. ‘

And while the screen star – who played Ruby Haswell on the ITV soap – was ‘all right’ during the initial coronavirus lockdown, she struggled with a later lockdown.

On Sunday’s Soap From The Box podcast, she said, ‘The first lockdown we had, all good, all good. Then this lockdown was very difficult for me.

Fortunately, I had the support of my mom, my brother, and my partner who helped me through it.

‘I really suffered a lot. You’re just afraid to go back to where you were before. ‘

Ruby was killed in August 2015 after a helicopter crashed into the town hall of Emmerdale.

And the star admitted at the time that she was “ honored ” that her departure to Dales was on such a major stunt.

She said on the upcoming podcast, ‘It had been a few months since I had heads up, and I was so excited about the storyline.

If you go, what a way to go – it’s not every day that you get a chopper blade to the belly! Just being a part of the episode was amazing and I feel really honored.

‘I couldn’t wait to shoot it and it was even better than I expected when we did. The atmosphere was electric.

‘Playing Ruby’s death scenes was quite difficult and sad, but I was so lucky to have such a great director and Laura Norton [Kerry] and Liam Fox [Dan] filming there with me. I couldn’t have wished it would be better. ‘
