‘We remain friends and our priority is the love for our children. For your sake, we would appreciate privacy at this time.
Matthew, who appeared on Loose Women in May, insisted he and Charley remain good friends and work well together to find the best way to look after their three children.
He said: “I think we’re still finding our way, the good thing is Charley and I are still best friends.”
‘That’s fantastic. It’s all pretty new to us right now, but we’re still finding our way, finding a way to do it and do it well. I think we are.
Signs of trouble in their marriage first emerged earlier the month they announced their separation, when Matthew unfollowed his then-wife on Instagram.
A source said the sun: ‘Charley and Matthew were in very different places in their lives when they first got together.
“Three children later and with new careers in the mix, everything has changed and they may no longer be the unit they once were.”
A month later, Matthew was seen hanging out with his love interest Heather Scott-Martin on a date in London.

The actor, 44, insisted on Loose Women that he and Charley remain good friends and work well together to find the best way to care for their three children (Charley and Matthew pictured in 2017).
Heather was appearing in the West End’s Elf The Musical as the Swing/Dance Captain, and Matthew also starred in the production as Buddy.
Matthew reportedly enjoyed a series of dates with Heather before his split from his wife and former co-star Charley was publicly announced.
A source said the sun: ‘They looked like newlyweds or teenagers in love. The photographs will come as a shock to poor Charley’s heart, even as her relationship with Matthew fell apart.
Former couple Charley and Matthew met on the set of Emmerdale in 2006, when he joined the soap, and they got engaged three years later in 2009.
The couple previously separated in 2013 for two years, before having a surprise wedding in 2018 at Ripley Castle, Yorkshire.
Their friends thought they were attending a party to celebrate their 30th birthday.
Charley gushed, “That moment when we announced what we were doing and seeing everyone’s reaction is the best moment of my life.”

The couple were married for five years after tying the knot in 2018 and share their three sons, Buster, 14, Bowie, eight, and Ace, four.
Matthew added: ‘We couldn’t have had a better response. People screamed for about ten minutes!’
In February 2020, after the birth of her third child, Charley admitted OK! magazine: ‘I don’t feel like it’s over. I don’t know how many kids I want, but I think I’ll know when I’m done.
‘Maybe I can’t have any more, so who knows? I feel blessed with three healthy children, so sometimes I feel greedy to have another.’
Speaking about her and Matthew’s parenting style, she revealed: “I’m definitely the strict one. He’s the most relaxed, the fun one. He’s very hands-on as a parent and very involved with the kids.”
