Emmerdale fans predicted a bad end for Dan Spencer when he pleaded guilty to grievous bodily harm during a court appearance on Thursday’s episode.
But, unknown to the mechanic, Lloyd Sawyer (Matt Sutton) had taken a turn for the worse at Hotten General Hospital, only minutes later he was pronounced dead.
He had intended to plead not guilty on the grounds of self-defense, but was overwhelmed with guilt when Lloyd’s wife, Julie, explained that he may never wake up.
With the news of Lloyd’s death, Dan (Liam Fox) could now upgrade his GBH charge to manslaughter or murder.
“I just looked around and all these things started going through my head and I felt like it was the right thing to do,” she explained to her daughter Amelia as they left court.
