It seems to be becoming a tradition for Emmanuel Macron to enjoy rugby with a beer.
The French president was seen sipping drinks during and after France’s surprisingly narrow (27-12) victory over Uruguay last night, as World Rugby president Sir Bill Beaumont looked on in admiration.
Macron was seen in photographs drinking two beers and cheering vigorously in the stands at the Pierre-Mauroy in Lille as his team overcame a surprisingly challenging Uruguayan team.
He seemed to enjoy the company of his rugby-mad Uruguayan counterpart, Luis Lacalle Pou, and former English rugby legend Bill Beaumont.
Macron was seen enjoying a full pint with Pou and Beaumont, before moving on to a bottle of Asahi.
French President Emmanuel Macron appeared to be having fun at rugby last night as France took on Uruguay in their second Rugby World Cup match in Lille.

He was flanked by the rugby-mad president of Uruguay, Luis Lacalle Pou, and the president of World Rugby, Sir Bill Beaumont.

Macron spent the game chatting with his two neighbors, especially with the Uruguayan president, who had traveled by plane expressly for the game.
It didn’t end there, since after the game Macron and Lacalle Pou went down to the locker room to eat pizza and more beer with the teams.
The two were seen having fun in photographs published by the media in Montevideo as players and staff milled around as midnight approached in Paris, where Macron was showered with gifts, including a tie from the Uruguayan rugby boss.

“It was difficult for me not to jump too much next to the host,” added Lacalle Pou, referring to Macron’s energetic cheers from the stadium stands.
Macron and Lacalle Pou were seen chatting throughout the match, punctuated by periodic energetic jumps from the French president as the pulsating match neared its end.

Macron jumped to his feet more often than those around him during calmer periods of the game.
