Emma Raducanu has turned to a trusted former coach from her childhood to help her prepare for Wimbledon next week.

The US Open champion was on the practice courts at the All England Club on Tuesday with Jane O’Donoghue, who had a long stint with the Lawn Tennis Association before leaving ahead of the pandemic to pursue a career in banking.

O’Donoghue is close to the Raducanu family and took young Emma on a journey in her early teens. They have remained friends and watched the men’s final at Wimbledon together last year.

Raducanu, who will be ranked 10th in this year’s tournament, assuming her sideline doesn’t stop her from playing, was also spotted with O’Donoghue in training at SW19 a few weeks ago.

A player himself, O’Donoghue reached the top 200 in the world and made the second round at Wimbledon twice, in 2004 and 2005.

Lacking a full-time coach, she’s clearly someone Raducanu can rely on as she prepares for a tournament that will see her under close scrutiny. The 19-year-old has also worked with LTAs Iain Bates and Louis Cayer in recent months.

O’Donoghue was on the track with Raducanu on Tuesday at the Aorangi Park practice complex and appeared to be exchanging technical information.

Raducanu has only played half a set since the French Open, having retired from the Nottingham Open two weeks ago with a sideline she is cautious about in hopes of being well-fit for the big fortnight.
