Nosferatu is the horror film reimagined of the 1992 cult classic and has been acclaimed for its resemblance to the original.

The 2024 vampire bloodfest features an all-star cast, including Bill Skarsgård as Count Orlok, Willem Dafoe as Prof. Albin Eberhart von Franz, Lily-Rose Depp as Ellen Hutter and Aaron Taylor-Johnson as Friedrich Harding.

Directed by Robert Eggers, mastermind of The Witch and The Lighthouse, the dark fantasy has been attached to the fictional German town of Wisborg and is set in 1838.

The plot involves real estate agent Thomas Hutter taking on Count Orlok as a client.

Count Orlok is looking for a new home in the city for himself and his wife Ellen, but unfortunately for Thomas, the hideous man is an ancient blood-sucking vampire.

Unlike the original, directed by FW Murnau, Ellen is now the center of the story and is no longer just the victim.

Ellen’s backstory is discovered in the new film and she takes a more active role in the plot, despite being mocked by society for her supposed “hysteria.”

The new version is also said to uncover the Count’s sexual side when he tells his wife that “he is an appetite” before entering her body – “spiritually.”

Nosferatu has already won Best Original Score at the Hollywood Music In Media Awards and received six nominations at the Astra Awards.

yeEarly reviews are already raving, calling the film “hypnotic,” “diabolical,” and “the scariest movie since The Shining,” as the film scored a 95 percent on Rotten Tomatoes.

“The film belongs to Lily-Rose Depp, whose performance is a revelation,” he declared. The Hollywood Reporteras Collider called it “one of the best performances of the year.”

“Her scenes with Bill Skarsgard are electric,” continued THR’s David Rooney. ‘Depp gives Ellen’s delusion a tragic gravity, which deepens once she recognizes the mystical forces within her that brought about the vampire’s obsession.

“She can go from weak and vulnerable to demonic in an instant, and the stylized physicality of her attacks is impressive.”

David also gushed about the director when he wrote: “The director makes even that overused modern horror trope, the jump scare, truly shocking, not something to instantly laugh at.

“It’s thrilling to experience a film so assured in the way it generates and maintains fear, so hypnotically terrifying that it grabs you by the throat and never lets go.”

‘Robert Eggers’ Nosferatu could be a modern horror classic, given how scary and sensual it takes on old material, but makes it feel completely new,” IGN agreed.
