Marvel’s latest series Secret invasion is action-packed, but Emilia Clarke describes some off-screen actions that didn’t go as planned.
During a recent interview with Yahoo Entertainmentwhere she was joined by co-star Ben Mendelsohn, the actress revealed that one day on set she almost ran him (Samuel L. Jackson) over with a car.
“They put me in a Lada, kind of a very old Russian car,” explains Clarke. “And I got in and thought, ‘Hey, what’s with the six (shift knobs) here? Which one am I using? Why does it have 10 pedals?’ It’s (like) a tractor… I know how to drive. I know how to drive stick. (But there wasn’t) enough time. They say, “We have to go. We’re shooting. Come on darling. Go. Let’s go.'”
The actress said she then gave herself a pep talk and said, ‘OK, I can do this. It’s just one stop.”
She continued, “(I) go in there. We insist. The camera is there. Sam’s there. And I pressed the wrong button, I pressed the accelerator instead of the brake.”
Fortunately, Clarke was able to quickly find the brake pedal, resulting in a collision with the Captain Marvel actor. Afterward, she commented that he was “really nice and nice and nice” about the whole situation.
But for Clarke, she reacted a little differently. “Then I cried a little bit and someone else drove it for me,” she added.
The actress plays G’iah in the Marvel series, in which Jackson’s Nick Fury and Mendelsohn’s Talos team up to stop the Skrulls that have invaded the highest realms of the Marvel Universe.
Clarke and Mendelsohn also spoke recently The Hollywood Reporter about how they were relieved not to have to spend hours in the hair and makeup trailer before filming since their characters were not in Skrull form throughout the series.
“You’ve heard it 9,000 times, but (Secret invasion) is a grounded show,” she said. “It’s very relatable, because while we’re Skrulls, the viewer looks at our human forms more than anything else.”
Secret invasion currently airs every Wednesday on Disney+.
