Arsenal are about to sign a new contract with 20-year-old midfielder Emile Smith-Rowe until 2026.
The Gunners have been negotiating with the youngster’s representatives for months on a new long-term deal and are close to reaching an agreement.
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Smith-Rowe is set to sign the contract until June 2026, with final details yet to be finalized.
Emile Smith Rowe enjoyed a breakout campaign and Arsenal offer a new deal
Smith Rowe turns 21 in July and will confidently go into next season after his most successful run on the side to date.
He played 20 Premier League games for The Gunners, scoring twice and providing four assists.
In February he said: ‘I can’t really describe the feeling, to be honest.
“As an Arsenal fan from such a young age, having the chance to help put on the Arsenal shirt and get out on the pitch, there really isn’t a better feeling for me.”
Mikel Arteta sees the value in the midfielder and the new contract offer is until 2026
Smith Rowe scored twice in the Premier League and provided four assists last season seizoen
So it’s no surprise that Smith-Rowe wants to tie his long-term future to his youth club.
There was interest from other clubs in the attacking midfielder, of whom Aston Villa was known to be admirers.
But they’ve moved to sign Emiliano Buendia from Norwich for a club-record £33million and there was little chance of Arsenal letting one of their best young prospects leave.
