Inside ‘Australia’s worst Maccas’: Shocked food critic unleashes terrible service, broken order screens and ‘dry’ burgers at notoriously low-rated McDonald’s
- Western Sydney McDonalds has a bad Google score
- ‘Semi pro’ TikTok food critic went to investigate
A social media food critic has been investigating the stomach-churning reputation of a McDonald’s that is claimed to be ‘Australia’s worst’.
TikToker ‘Crazy Carl’ went to McDonald’s in Emerton, western Sydney, after visiting urged to visit by his own followers.
His review came after an earlier video about ‘the worst Macca’s in Sydney’, at St Peters on the Princes Highway, but tthere was no comparison here.
On Google, the Emerton restaurant has a rating of 2.3 out of 5 stars based on 1,332 reviews. The St Peters franchise has an average of 3.8 stars based on 2,246 reviews.

A Google reviewer claimed McDonald’s staff in Emerton had “tried to fight him” when he complained.
Crazy Carl, who describes himself as a “semi-professional food critic,” made a clip about his experience enduring dodgy food, but surprisingly ended up giving the restaurant 5 stars.
But it was a sarcastic score, only given because “the seats were really cool.”
As soon as he walked in, Carl found grounds to argue that the Western Sydney franchise was underpowered.
“I can’t lie, right away none of the order machines worked and no one was there to take our order,” he said.
“When our food finally came, we realized they gave us the wrong order, just like you all said.”
“The Big Mac was so dry I almost threw up. The patty tasted like cardboard.
And the McFlurry tasted really, really bad.
‘But that’s okay, because the seats were really cool. So five out of five!’
Crazy Carl’s followers enjoyed the chance to reflect on Emerton Macca’s.
“Yes, you probably ate last year’s food, Emerton Macca’s is still about a year or two behind on orders, my brother,” one man wrote.
“Waited 20 minutes for my coffee at this Macca’s they didn’t make and the manager was mad at me for asking for my coffee,” another wrote.
A girl said she used to work in the restaurant. “Never again,” she said.
One person claimed that despite living across the street from the dubious restaurant, they instead drove 20 minutes to reach one of Penrith’s five Maccas.

Crazy Carl’s followers urged him to check out Emerton Maccas after watching the St Peters franchise. His instinct to give Emerton a good score was immediately undermined when all the delivery machines were out of order
So could Macca’s in Emerton really be that much worse than Australia’s other thousand-plus McDonald’s franchises?
A quick Daily Mail Australia search of 10 other McDonald’s, in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane, all yielded scores just above or just below 3.5 stars – including Penrith’s stores.
Even the Macca’s on Princes Highway in Moe, Victoria – named Australia’s worst in a cheeky 2016 Trip Advisor post – has a much better Google rating (3.4 stars).
