A schoolgirl who was allegedly murdered after having her throat slit has been identified.
The girl’s father is believed to have found the 10-year-old at his home in Emerald Lakes, Carrara, shortly after 6pm on Tuesday.
She called triple zero, but paramedics were unable to save her. A 46-year-old woman was arrested and charged with murder.
The schoolgirl has since been identified as Sophie Wang, a fifth-year student at Emmanuel College.
“We are currently treating the death of the 10-year-old girl as suspicious and enquiries are ongoing in relation to the child’s death,” Detective Inspector Lou Serafim said before the arrest was made public.
The triple-0 call was made by a relative who was at the scene of the incident when the 10-year-old girl was located.
“He’s a relative and he’s being very cooperative and helping police with the investigation.”
