Football players love to roast their own, but an attempt by former AFL superstars to take the mickey away from Brisbane Lions legend Jonathan Brown has failed.
Brown returned to Australia this week after a failed attempt to meet UFC superstar Conor McGregor ahead of his return fight against Michael Chandler on June 29.
It’s a fight that’s been 18 months in the making, but doubts remain over whether it will happen, as Brown found out the hard way.
Fox Sports sent the three-time Brisbane Lions champion to Dublin last week to interview McGregor ahead of his return to the octagon in Las Vegas and needless to say, the big guy was excited.

Brown traveled to Ireland to meet Conor McGregor but the meeting never took place
Brown had never been to Ireland before, so he was excited to have an exclusive chat with one of the world’s biggest sports stars.
It’s fair to say that things didn’t go as planned.
Canceled flights and lost luggage were the problems getting to Dublin and then McGregor went AWOL, canceled at Brown and then didn’t show up at his press conference the next day.
“The closest I ever got to him was pouring my own beers behind the tap with his title belt on my shoulder.” Brown said.
So his old AFL rivals and Fox Sports colleagues Garry Lyon, Nathan Buckley and four-time premiership winner Hawk Jordan Lewis decided to stitch him up.
During the broadcast of the clash between the Brisbane Lions and the Western Bulldogs, the panel mocked Brown for his lack of success in getting McGregor interviewed.
“We sent the great man around the world and he was going to try to find his hero,” Lyon said.
You went to look for him, but he didn’t appear.
“I know you’re flat, so the three of us said let’s get the big guy up tonight.”
The three-time premiership winner took the taunts from his former AFL rivals in good stride.
Then the panel queued up Lisa Stansfield’s hit All Around the World and began singing along to embarrassing scenes.
“I’ve been all over the world and I can’t find my baby,” they sang.
Brown did his best to hide his embarrassment, but football fans didn’t hold back.
‘Glad I missed that embarrassing stuff live guys,’ one posted.
‘Who thought this would be fun? “I’m ashamed,” said another.
“One of the toughest watches you’ll see this year,” added another.
Meanwhile, the Brisbane Lions have injected life into their inconsistent AFL campaign by recording a commanding 43-point win against the Western Bulldogs at Marvel Stadium.
Returning to the scene of their disappointing loss to Hawthorn before half-time, the Lions hit the Bulldogs up the middle to set the tone for a 17.12 (114) to 10.11 (71) victory on Friday night.
“It was a good response and it was probably the best we’ve played this year,” Lions coach Chris Fagan said.
