Em Rusciano broke down on Abbie Chatfield’s It’s A Lot podcast and said she “felt ashamed” when she was diagnosed with autism.
In a two-part episode of the No Holds Barred podcast, the Australian comedian, 45, opened up about her sensory issues, ADHD, autism and other medical issues.
Rusciano, who often shares posts on social media related to his various health issues, stated that his autism diagnosis came after a long period of shame and not fitting in.
“At first, when I realized that I was not a stereotypical girl, the shame began. I never fit in,” she said as she seemed to choke.
‘Shame about menstruation, shame about my body after giving birth. So the autism diagnosis was just another layer of shame,” Em said, visibly upset as she refers to her finally receiving a diagnosis in 2022 after a doctor “fired” her for “not meeting the criteria.”

Previously, Em also talked about how she didn’t have a sense of belonging due to her ‘sensory issues’ and food preferences.
‘I’ve always had sensory problems. I only eat four different types of foods. “I never belonged,” Em said.

‘Actually?’ Abbie asked, to which Em jokingly replied, “No.”
Bacterial vaginosis (BV) is a common condition in women. It occurs when the normal balance of microorganisms in the vagina is disturbed.
The candid revelations come as Rusciano revealed that being accused of faking her autism and ADHD diagnosis caused her to become depressed and paranoid.

The former radio star said stellar magazine earlier this month that he couldn’t get out of bed while facing public scrutiny for his admission that he was struggling with developmental disabilities.
It’s such a crazy thing to accuse someone. I started keeping my diagnostic report on paper and digitally, that’s how disturbing it was. “I didn’t get out of bed for a month,” Em said.
“It was my worst fear. She really she took me out and got me down. She made me not want to talk about it anymore, but it’s what I am; Closing that part wouldn’t do 10-year-old Em any favors, so I spent many months recovering.
He added: “And then I got over myself and realized I don’t need validation.”
