Elon Musk’s ex Grimes told artists they could use her voice on AI-generated songs for a fair split of the royalties — days before she left her record label.
The Canadian singer, 35, offered her fans to use her music “without penalty” on Sunday in exchange for a 50 percent profit — following the success of the AI of a song performed with the voices of Drake and The Weeknd.
Grimes, whose real name is Claire Boucher, has said that nothing is taboo and that her “end goal has always been to push boundaries rather than have a beautiful song”.

While copyright may be an issue in the world of artificial intelligence, Grimes informally assured artists that they would not be penalized for experimenting with her voice.
“I think it’s cool that a wa machine is integrated, and I love the idea of open-sourcing all the artwork and killing the copyright,” she wrote.
Grimes acknowledged the uncertainty of artificial intelligence and cutting-edge technology in the music world.
“The goal is to poke holes in the simulation and see what happens even if it’s a bad outcome for us,” she added.
While Grimes claimed that nothing was forbidden, she later claimed that copyright could be an issue if her music was used for “toxic” purposes.
“Well, I hate that part, but we might as well take copyright removal just for rly rly toxic words and grimes voice,” she wrote.
Grimes explained that artists “really have to push” for copyright enforcement, especially with regards to sexuality and violence.
“It’s like no baby killing songs please,” she wrote.
The singer added that while she hates adding more rules, she also prefers to avoid political topics.
Grimes was inspired to explore the creativity of artificial intelligence after a viral song that features parodies of Drake and The Weeknd’s voices.

Grimes shares a one-year-old daughter, Exa Dark Sideræl Musk, with tech billionaire Elon Musk. Last month, Grimes revealed that she called her daughter, Way, short.
She and the Tesla CEO are also parents to two-year-old X Æ A-12, nicknamed X, whose name was later modified to X Æ A-Xii because California law prohibits the use of numbers in a legal name.
Elon has eight more children – 19-year-old twins Griffin and Xavier (now Vivian-Jenna Wilson) and 17-year-old triplets Damian, Saxon and Kay – from a previous marriage with Justin Wilson.
They also previously welcomed a son, Nevada Alexander Musk, in 2002 but died of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) after just 10 weeks.
Most recently, he welcomed twins with Neuralink Director of Special Operations and Projects Shivon Zilis in November 2021 ahead of the arrival of his second child with Grimes.
He and Grimes began dating publicly in May 2018, but had an on and off relationship until finally separating after the birth of their daughter in March 2022.
