Elon Musk humiliated Kamala Harris on his social media platform X on Monday, confirming that she lied about Donald Trump’s position on a national abortion ban.

In April, Trump said he is against a national abortion ban and would not sign a bill if re-elected president because it had already “violated” Roe v. Wade, though he declined to clarify whether he identifies as pro-choice or pro-life.

Trump reiterated that position during his first debate with Harris’ boss, Joe Biden, on Thursday, in a horrific spectacle that has left Democrats reeling over what to do next ever since.

However, on Monday, Harris tweeted: “Donald Trump would ban abortion nationwide. President @JoeBiden and I will do everything in our power to stop him and restore women’s reproductive freedom.”

Musk reposted a screenshot of the tweet on his own account, along with several community notes reiterating Trump’s resistance to a national ban.

Trump told reporters at an April press event with House Speaker Mike Johnson at Mar-a-Lago that there is no longer a need for a national abortion ban because of the Supreme Court’s June 2022 decision to overturn Roe v. Wade.

The president had previously changed his mind about his support for a national abortion ban, angering his right-wing supporters and liberals.

“We don’t need it anymore because we broke Roe v. Wade and did something that nobody thought possible. We gave it back to the states and they are doing brilliantly in some cases,” he said.

When pressed further by a reporter on whether he identifies as “pro-choice” or “pro-life,” Trump ignored it.

“You know exactly which one it is,” he replied, then compared himself to Ronald Reagan, because both Republican leaders were registered Democrats.

“When I was in New York, and I was a Democrat, just like Ronald Reagan, you know. Ronald Reagan was a Democrat, in some ways we followed a very similar path.”

He praised the Supreme Court justices who overturned Roe v. Wade in 2022, three of whom the president appointed.

Trump also accused Democrats of being the “radicals on this” because they are willing to perform abortions up to birth.

“This is extreme and radical, and no one should allow it. And it must stop.”

The former president released a video earlier this week in which he claimed abortion policy should be left to the states, finally revealing his stance on the controversial issue after hinting at it for months.

He did not specify a time frame in which he would or would not support abortion in his long-awaited announcement video posted on Truth Social.

Trump celebrated the Supreme Court’s overturning of Roe v. Wade in June 2022, sparking two years of debate over how abortion should now be handled at the state and federal levels.

The 77-year-old also said in the four-and-a-half-minute video that he believed in exceptions to the right to terminate a pregnancy in cases of rape, incest and to save the life of the mother.

“We have abortion where everybody wanted it from a legal standpoint, the states will determine that by vote or legislation or maybe both, and what they decide should be the law of the land,” Trump said in the video.

He also accused Democrats of believing in “executing the baby after birth.”

Trump had previously suggested he would support a federal ban on abortion starting at 15 weeks.

Last month, speaking on the radio show Sid & Friends in the Morning, Trump confirmed some reports that he was considering proposing policies that would implement a federal ban allowing abortion during the first trimester.

“People agree that the number of weeks will be 15, and I’m thinking about that and coming up with a very reasonable result,” Trump said in the interview.

“But people are actually in agreement, even the most radical, that it seems that 15 weeks is a number that people are okay with. But I will make that announcement at the appropriate time.”

Now Trump has chosen to sidestep the issue and leave the matter to the states.

Stalwart opponents of abortion are disappointed that Trump has not gone far enough in rolling out his policy after calling himself for years the most pro-life president in U.S. history.

Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America says the group is “deeply disappointed” with Trump’s position and said turning the issue over to the states “cedes the national debate to Democrats.”

The group said it will “work tirelessly to defeat President Biden” in November.
