Elon Musk “passed out” during a meeting in Moscow after drinking several glasses of vodka during a dinner where he was trying to buy multi-million dollar rockets.
The Tesla and X CEO told author Walter Isaacson in his highly anticipated new biography that he had wanted to launch a mission that would “inspire public interest in space exploration.”
He teamed up with rocket engineer Jim Cantrell and Adeo Ressi, his former roommate and CEO of the Founder Institute, to organize a business meeting to negotiate the purchase of the missiles.
According to the book published on September 12, Musk and his colleagues traveled to Moscow to discuss rocket purchases with the Russians in the early 2000s.
But before landing, they had a stopover in Paris, which included a night of partying, which left Musk “in tatters.”

The trio met with the would-be sellers in the back room of a Moscow restaurant, eating “small bites of food interspersed with large glasses of vodka,” Isaacson wrote.
Musk and his two friends also each received a bottle of vodka, with a photo of the recipient on Mars on the label.

According to the book, Musk and his colleagues traveled to Moscow to discuss rocket purchases in the early 2000s.
Space X founder Musk’s first space exploration project involved sending a greenhouse to Mars, called “Mars Oasis.”
He told the biographer that “the weight of the food and the weight of the vodka” were roughly equal throughout the lunch.
“Musk, who was holding his head up with his hand, fainted and his head hit the table,” according to the book.
After the failed meeting in which he fainted, Musk returned to Moscow in early 2002 to attempt to purchase two Dnepr rockets for $18 million.
The Russians laughed at him, who wanted $18 million each for the projectiles, and they said, “Oh, little boy, don’t you have the money?”
Musk pushed back on the price and ultimately left empty-handed when they raised the cost to $21 million each, according to Cantrell in the book.

Twitter, now X. Corp, and Tesla CEO Elon Musk, right, pose with French President Emmanuel Macron before their talks, Monday, May 15, 2023 at the Elysée in Paris.

At the meeting with the French president the next day, Musk could still be seen wearing what appeared to be his party boots from the night before.
Acclaimed author Isaacson, who wrote biographies of Steve Jobs and Albert Einstein, worked with Musk for two years on his book.
In January, Musk claimed he didn’t like “the taste or effects of most alcohol” but admitted he liked red wine.
He was photographed in 2022 sipping the drink at the World Cup final in Qatar, and sipped whiskey with Joe Rogan during his podcast in 2018.
In 2017, Musk tweeted: “A little red wine, a vintage record, a little Ambien…and magic!”
This isn’t the first time Musk has admitted to partying before a big meeting, joking that he had to “sleep in his car” after partying in Los Angeles before flying to Paris to meet the French president.
Musk was photographed watching Mladen Solomun, a Bosnian-German DJ, alongside a crowd of 10,000 people at the historic Par exhibition in May.
Hours later, the billionaire was photographed unshaven and wearing the same boots during his meeting with President Macron.
He is known to be a fan of Electronic Dance Music (EDM), having written and released a track himself in January 2020 called “Don’t Doubt Your Vibe”.
