Elon Musk defended himself harshly against criticizing an SNL writer who said he “made her cry,” and he took to X on Tuesday night to explain why he attacked her so harshly.
Chloe Fineman took to TikTok to air her complaints about Musk, who she claims berated her in 2021 after she stayed up “all night” to create a funny sketch for his show.
The couple appeared together on SNL on May 8, 2021. The sketch in question is believed to be The Ooli Show, in which Fineman played an eccentric TV host and Musk played his lovelorn producer.
Fineman claimed she worked hard to create the script and was heartbroken when Musk rejected it.
In his rebuttal to X, he defended being so honest with her.
‘Frankly, it was only the Thursday before Saturday that ANY of the sketches generated any laughs. I was worried. I thought my appearance on SNL was going to be so fucking disgusting it would sober up a crackhead!!’
Musk lined up alongside Fineman and the rest of the SNL cast at the end of the May 2021 show, which became embroiled in controversy after Fineman accused Musk of berating her and making her cry.
In a TikTok video this week, Fineman said Musk made her “break into tears” with his insensitive reaction to a sketch she had “stayed up late” writing.
Rumors about a nightmarish SNL guest emcee first spread earlier this year when cast member Bowen Yang told Andy Cohen about his “worst” experience on the show, without revealing all the details.
The rumors flared up again on Monday when Musk tweeted his outrage over SNL’s post-2024 presidential election show and criticized Dana Carvey’s impression of him.
This prompted Fineman to share his TikTok and say, ‘Okay, I just saw a news article about Elon Musk being like a pain in the ass over SNL and his impression.
‘And I say, you know what? I’m going to come out and finally say that I’m the cast member he made cry. And he’s the host who made someone cry.
She said Musk reprimanded her for a sketch she had just “stayed up late writing,” where Musk played an Icelandic talk show producer who interrupted the show, titled “The Ooli Show.”

Fineman continued, “I was so excited that I walked in, asked you if you had any questions, and you looked at me like you were saying goodbye to Tesla and said, ‘That’s not funny.'”
She said Musk “started flipping through my script, like turning every page, (and) saying, ‘I didn’t laugh once.'”
In his response tweet, Musk admitted that “it worked out in the end,” and Fineman said that despite the Space X boss’ attitude, she thought he “was really funny.”
It came after Musk criticized Carvey’s portrayal of him on the post-election show and launched a series of tweets on Sunday in response to the segment in which Carvey imitated gestures Musk made while on the campaign trail with Trump.
“SNL has been slowly dying for years, as they become more and more out of touch with reality,” said the Pretoria, South Africa-born mogul, who hosted the show’s May 8, 2021 episode.
He added: “His latest effort to circumvent equal airtime requirements and prop up Kamala before the election only helped sink his campaign further.”
Musk, 53, criticized Saturday Night Live’s portrayal of him by Dana Carvey, 69, in the NBC staple’s first episode since Donald Trump’s election victory.
In the opening segment, Carvey, a cast member of the series from 1986 to 1993, was dressed in an all-black ensemble similar to what Musk has been seen wearing lately.

Carvey said while imitating Musk: “Look, dark MAGA, but seriously, I run the country now.”
“America will be like one of my rockets: you know, they’re super cool and super fun, but there’s a small chance it will explode and everyone will die.”
The SpaceX CEO said of the comic’s performance: “Dana Carvey just sounds like Dana Carvey.”
