Ellen DeGeneres gave a rare insight into her life with wife Portia de Rossi at their $70 million ‘permanent home’ in California where she gave her first interview in a year this week.
The former talk show host, 65, and his wife Portia, 50, who are best known for their multimillion-dollar real estate portfolio and home-flipping prowess, have settled into their newly acquired Carpinteria estate.
Talking to RIV MagazineThe star said, “This place is all about slick. The house needed a lot of work but the place has always been great. Oddly enough, this is the first place Portia and I have ever looked here (in 2007)…honestly I didn’t even want to.” In seeing the place. It’s the longest I’ve ever dealt with a property.
Because the location was amazing but the house, while good bones, basically didn’t have a single roof that I could live with and everything collided with everything. Even the ceilings.
The star said she and actress Portia don’t conflict about the home renovation, saying, “There’s no division. She is as passionate about horses as I am about homes. But we don’t delve into each other’s silos. I really can’t get her to go to a furniture store with me. Unless there’s a horse somewhere out there.

The star made major progress with her new property renovation after just a few months and revealed how she got the job done so quickly.
She added, “Personally, I just don’t understand people accepting such long timescales to get things done. Once I make the decision to engage, I’m off to the races. And in a situation like this where we’re only dealing with surface changes, it’s just a matter of how big a quality team of painters and fine finishers are.” that you can quickly build and deploy.
DailyMail.com reported last year that Ellen and Portia renewed their vows – with Kris Jenner taking over – at their new home in a ceremony that was also attended by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
“This is a new chapter,” Portia said to her wife. “After 24 homes in 18 years, this is our first home.”
In December, the New York Post reported that DeGeneres and de Rossi had purchased the home in Carpinteria which is just south of Summerland.
They’ve paid for a pair of properties next door to each other, one north of $40 million while the other close to $30 million.
The two properties add up to 10 acres when combined. The publication also reported that $70 million was the highest ever paid for a property in Santa Barbara.
DeGeneres and de Rossi have shown a savvy interest in real estate over the past year, with the couple buying and selling a number of properties.

Ellen and Portia first met in 2000 at a party and de Rossi quickly fell head over heels for Ellen.
However, the couple did not begin dating until several years later, in part because De Rossi was not gay at the time.
The couple married in 2008 after California legalized same-sex marriage, and they’ve been together ever since.
In the footage of their vow renewal, Ellen and Portia are seen holding hands as they look into each other’s eyes. It also bears long-stemmed white flowers.
