She made a triumphant return to the catwalk for the first time in almost 14 years at the inaugural PayPal Melbourne Fashion Festival show on Monday.

And Elle MacPherson has now revealed why she decided to return to the catwalk just weeks before celebrating her 60th birthday.

Speaking to Karl Stefanovic and Sarah Abo on Tuesday’s Today show, the Australian supermodel, 59, said she feels “better now than ever” and wanted to use her fame to support local designers.

‘(Walking at the PayPal Melbourne Fashion Festival) was a celebration. It was wonderful to dress all these young Australian designers… and support these Australian designers who have been paving the way overseas. “I had a great time,” the mother of two gushed.

Elle said she was particularly excited to support the event’s sponsor, PayPal, which she said has “really helped” her own supplement brand, WelleCo, as well as PayPal’s charity partner, UNICEF.

‘So It was about giving back. Support Melbourne fashion designers…and just enjoy it,” she added.

Elle also talked about her 60th birthday, which will be celebrated at the end of the month.

‘I have to tell you that I feel better than ever now. My 40s were somewhat lazy years. But now I really feel in my element,” enthuses the businesswoman.

‘I’m loving life. Life has a lot of purpose. It’s meaningful to me. I have love in my life,’ continued Elle, who is dating American musician Doyle Bramhall, 54.

Elle turned heads on Monday as she walked the runway in designs from Australian brands including Viktoria + Woods, Bianca Spender and Aje.

Elle previously told Daily Telegraph I was more than happy to kick off the distinctly Australian fashion event.

“I’m grateful to be back home, not to necessarily be seen as an icon, but I’m grateful for my Australian heritage,” she said.

“I have had an extraordinary career that has given me unusual and interesting experiences and I am extremely grateful.”
