Jessica Fox’s quest for a historic third Olympic medal in Paris ended when her sister Noemie eliminated the superstar in her kayak cross round.

After winning the C1 and K1 titles, Fox is looking to secure a golden treble with the new Olympic event added to the Paris calendar.

But her plans came crashing down on Sunday afternoon when a costly goalkeeping error meant she missed out on a top-two finish to advance to the quarter-finals, finishing last.

The Fox brothers were drawn in the same heat of four rowers, against veteran Spaniard, three-time Olympic medalist Maialen Chourraut, and Dutch rower Martina Wegman.

Noemie, 27, made a spectacular start, quickly pulling away with her sister at the back of the pack.

Jessica overtook Wegman, but when she tried to get past Chourraut, she missed a gate and had to row back, which put her out of the race.

After crossing the line, young Fox waited for her older sister and hugged her in touching scenes.

Earlier, Tim Anderson won his heat to book his place in the quarter-finals in the men’s event, while Tristan Carter also advanced after finishing second.

More to follow.
