The Pixar team was able to use snippets of his voice from unused dialogue he recorded for the first three films.

There were also clips he recorded for theme park articles, video games, and even the Disny show On Ice: Toy Story, which was used for Toy Story 4, which was released in 2019, two years after Don’s death.

Mindy hopes Disney Pixar employs the same tactics to ensure they remain a part of the Toy Story franchise.

Still, it’s worth noting that Estelle Harris, who provided the voice of Mrs. Potato Head, passed away in April 2022 at age 93.

Since both actors play the now-deceased iconic characters, it’s possible that Disney will simply sideline the characters entirely and write them out of the franchise.

It’s also possible that the studio could do a recast, although there’s no indication yet as to how the studio plans to handle this situation.

The original Toy Story put Pixar on the map in 1995, launching what would become an iconic franchise.

Toy Story grossed $394 million worldwide on a budget of just $30 million, launching a new franchise centered around Tom Hanks’ Woody and Tim Allen’s Buzz Lightyear.

Toy Story 2 debuted in 1999, grossing $541 million off a $90 million budget, although it would be more than a decade before the franchise returned.

Toy Story 3 didn’t hit theaters until 2010, although it would become the first animated film to gross more than $1 billion ($1.067 billion).

It was the highest-grossing animated film of all time until it was surpassed just two years later by Frozen ($1.285 million).

2019’s Toy Story 4 also joined the billion-dollar club, grossing $1.074 million during its theatrical run.
