Does he stay or does he go? The question of head coach Oliver Glasner’s future at Eintracht Frankfurt is dominating the headlines these days around the reigning Europa League winner. Now the Austrian himself has made it clear what he makes his decision dependent on.
“The basis for my decision is always: What do I think? What can we achieve together? That’s what drives me. Because then the chance of success is much, much greater,” said the 48-year-old in an interview with “Bild”.
He continued: “What goes with it is simply that we can give people and fans a lot of joy. For example, when we drove into the city in Frankfurt with the motorcade after the Europa League victory and the People cried with happiness. That’s the most fulfilling thing about our job – despite all the criticism that keeps pouring in – making people so happy by maybe even exceeding their expectations. That’s the best thing.”
After the club’s greatest success in 42 years and the first qualification for the Champions League, sporting development under Glasner had stalled in recent months. After a weak spring week, Eintracht has lost sight of qualifying for the premier class again and is in seventh place with six Bundesliga games to go.
England rumors are circulating about the Eintracht coach
There are many indications that successful coach Glasner is making his decision to stay with Hessen beyond the summer of 2023 dependent on qualifying for the European Cup again.
“We haven’t missed the international place yet. Everything is still possible. And where there is risk, there are also opportunities! We had a total of 18 new players here in these two years. That’s a huge change,” Glasner reminded of the big ones Changes within the squad of licensed players since taking office almost two years ago.
In recent weeks, the Austrian has been repeatedly linked to English Premier League clubs, most notably Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur.
