The Eiffel Tower has been evacuated after a man was seen climbing the iconic Paris landmark hours before the Olympic Games closing ceremony.
The shirtless man was seen climbing the 1,083-foot (330-meter) tower this afternoon.
It was unclear where he began his ascent, but he was seen just above the Olympic rings that adorn the second section of the monument, just above the first observation deck.
A video posted on social media shows the man climbing the tower next to the blue Olympic ring.
Another clip shows a blonde man in handcuffs being escorted off the Eiffel Tower by French police, saying in a British accent to the person filming him: “It’s very hot, isn’t it?”

The closing ceremony is scheduled to begin at the Stade de France, in the Saint-Denis district, far from the Tower, at around 9 p.m.
More than 30,000 police officers were deployed in and around Paris to oversee the final Olympic events and Sunday’s closing ceremony.
French Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin said around 3,000 police officers would be deployed around the Stade de France, and 20,000 police and other security personnel in Paris and the Saint-Denis area would be mobilized late into Sunday night to ensure security on the final day of the Games.
