The 52-year-old Dutchman was airlifted to hospital by helicopter on Friday but was listed in stable condition, according to a statement from his former team Ajax on Friday.
It read: ‘On Friday, Edwin van der Sar had a haemorrhage around his brain. He is currently in the hospital in the intensive care unit and is in stable condition.
