- Napoli forward Arkadiusz Milik is drafted as Dzeko’s replacement at Roma
- But the Pole’s action is being delayed by a dispute over outstanding wages
- Paulo Fonseca has stated that Dzeko will start, but the Bosnian is reluctant to play
Roma striker Edin Dzeko faces a dilemma as to whether to play Hellas Verona on Friday night or prepare for his Juventus medication, according to reports in Italy.
Dzeko will join Juventus from Roma in £ 13.7m (€ 15m) deal after agreeing on personal terms based on a two-year deal worth £ 7m (€ 7.5m) per season .
But with a deal for Arkadiusz Milik – Dzeko’s proposed replacement at Roma – held up by a contract dispute with Napoli, Paulo Fonseca said the former Manchester City forward would play in their Serie A season opener against Verona tonight.

A deal for Arkadiusz Milik – Dzeko’s proposed replacement – is held by a contract dispute
However, there are multiple reports including from Sky Sport Italia and Tuttosport claim that Dzeko’s camp has informed them that the Bosnian will not play in case an injury prevents his move to Juventus.
Polish international Milik was all set for a smooth move to Roma from Napoli after the clubs agreed on a loan agreement with a purchase commitment of £ 16.5 million (€ 18 million) plus up to £ 6 million (€ 7 million) in bonuses and two youth players. .
But the deal is shelved because Milik wants to receive the two-month back wages for the new season and asks the club to drop the fines due to the infamous ‘mutiny’ of December 2019 within the squad.
Milik started his medical treatment on Friday and that will continue on Saturday, but the contractual dispute with Napoli is still running out.
Paulo Fonseca therefore said that Dzeko will play against Hellas Verona on Friday
That has made it an uncomfortable situation for 34-year-old Dzeko, who plans to lower the curtain after a five-year spell in the Italian capital with a switch to Turin.
And when he’s not playing Verona, the only option Roma have seems to be using Henrikh Mkhitaryan as an impromptu center-forward.
Mkhitaryan joined Roma for a permanent transfer earlier this summer after canceling his contract with Arsenal following a successful loan spell at Stadio Olimpico during the 2019/20 season.
But if Dzeko isn’t playing, the only option for Roma is to use Henrikh Mkhitaryan in that role.
