Lady Victoria Hervey’s quest to prove the innocence of convicted sex trafficker Ghislaine Maxwell has taken a disturbing turn.

The sister of the Marquis of Bristol, 48, and friend of Ghislaine, 62, is making a television documentary about the case.

But one of those he planned to interview was murdered this summer.

“There was a setback: my witness was murdered in July in Chicago,” he tells me. “It was classified as a violent crime.”

The sister of the Marquess of Bristol refuses to give the name of the deceased, but says she has suspended her project as a result.

“I’m taking a little time off, a little respite,” he tells me at Frieze London 2024: private viewing by John Copeland and Katrin Fridriks at JD Malat Gallery in Mayfair, London. “I was talking to people who had evidence and one of them has been murdered.”

Ghislaine, ex-girlfriend of the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, was found guilty of charges of child seduction and sex trafficking of underage girls. He is currently serving a 20-year sentence in a Florida prison.

Epstein was found dead in a US federal prison cell in 2019 while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges.

Ghislaine, like Lady Victoria, is a friend of Prince Andrew.

He lived in Los Angeles for two decades, but last year he told me he had to flee the United States.

“It all started to get scary when I got involved in a new documentary about Ghislaine,” he said. ‘A whistleblower close to the girls for the past three years has approached me and I have been gathering evidence to support Ghislaine and Prince Andrew.

‘I’ve been working undercover and it’s dangerous. The powers that be there know everything about me. I even thought they were following me. I was glad to return to the UK. I just want this to be over and to stop looking over my shoulder and get back to normal.’

The socialite added: “I have been writing to Ghislaine in prison and I am in contact with Prince Andrew, but I cannot speak about him, although the Palace is fully aware of what is happening.”

“It’s delicate, but I think there is hope for Ghislaine.”
