Eddie Howe has insisted that Kieran Trippier remains an “important part of Newcastle’s future”.

Trippier was named as a substitute for the second consecutive Premier League game when Newcastle faced Bournemouth away.

The 33-year-old often captained Newcastle on the pitch last season but that responsibility has now fallen to Bruno Guimaraes.

Trippier featured for Newcastle’s Under-21s against Sunderland recently, but Howe is convinced he will have a role to play for the Magpies in the future.

Howe added that Trippier’s return to training had been delayed by his involvement with England at Euro 2024, and that Tino Livramento had taken his chance to start at right-back for Newcastle.

Asked by Sky Sports if fans could take any interpretation from Trippier being on the bench, Howe replied: “No. Kieran has just come back from the Euros and has had limited training. He is an important part of our future.”

Despite Howe’s comments, uncertainty remains over Trippier’s future at Newcastle, with the right-back open to leaving before transfer deadline day.
