Eddie Howe believes that David Brooks is already showing why Bournemouth spent £ 10 million to secure his services.

Wales midfielder Brooks was encouraged in his Premier League debut when the Cherries started the season with a 2-0 victory over Cardiff City.

The 21-year-old joined the south coast club of Sheffield United in July and impressed in the preseason.

He played the first 67 minutes against the newly promoted Bluebirds, while manager Howe maintained the faith with the starting eleven who recorded a resounding 5-2 victory in last week's friendly against Ligue 1, Marseille.

"I decided to go with the same team as Marseille due to the fact that the performance was very good, I thought it was very difficult to get someone out of that," said Howe.

"David deserved to start with that performance and was very happy with his contribution.

"He's young, yes, but he's talented and I think you saw a glimpse of his potential, I'm really satisfied with him."

Brooks produced an energetic display on the right wing before being replaced by Simon Francis.

He was the only new face on the home team, as the record signing of £ 25 million Jefferson Lerma is improving his fitness after the World Cup and the Spanish side £ 10.7 million Diego Rico is suspended the first three games of the season .

End Ryan Fraser gave Bournemouth a 24-minute lead before striker Callum Wilson – who had been penalized in the first half by Neil Etheridge – added a second in stoppage time.

The Cardiff of Neil Warnock showed much spirit in the defeat but created little in front of the goal.
