Ed Sheeran lookalike says he’s been forced to go out in disguise to avoid the star’s fans

An Ed Sheeran lookalike claims he’s been forced to go out in disguise and shop at night and is harassed daily by hordes of “crying and trembling fans” because of his uncanny resemblance to the pop star.

Ty Jones, from Manchester, works as a full-time lookalike and says he makes mistakes with Ed almost every day, with a fan so struck that he ended up crashing his bike after seeing the doppelganger.

The lookalike, who is the same size as the star, even runs his errands in the evenings to avoid fans and keeps himself unobtrusive in casual clothes, sunglasses, a face mask and a hat.

“I’ve had them all, from fans crying and shaking to a star-struck cyclist who couldn’t stop looking and crashed their bike while still making eye contact,” Ty said.

“It was like a comedy skit when I went to help,” they said. “At least I just met Ed Sheeran.”

“I’ve had insane numbers of fans following me in Hackney in London and Los Angeles, to the point where the team I worked with had to help me create a dramatic escape plan.”

Prior to his lookalike career, Ty had set his sights on working at B&Q or on a fishing boat while in school.

‘My dream job was working in B&Q or working on a fishing boat. Acting back then was more of a dream than reality. He has even been told that he is more attractive than the star.

He said: ‘I get a lot of compliments from people who claim to have met him and can’t believe how similar we are.

“At my old job, a sweet old lady once said I looked like Ed, but she thought I was prettier.”

“When I got a chance to speak, I was sitting with the owner, the table set, and it seemed too late to tell them I wasn’t him, I was too deep into it.

“Then he asked if I could follow him on social media. I told him I left my phone in the tour bus but then it started shaking so we sent an excuse to leave quickly before they knew it.”

He added: “I aspire to master his songs and become a tribute act and continue to try my hand at acting or other roles in the future.”
