Earthquake strikes off Tonga, tsunami advisory issued for American Samoa

A magnitude 6.7 earthquake struck the sea about 108 km (67 mi) southwest of Hihifo, Tonga, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) said.

A tsunami advisory has been issued for American Samoa and the quake could soon hit nearby coasts, the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center (PTWC) said.

The quake was at a depth of 36 km, the USGS said.
