Eamonn Holmes was left “shocked” and “furious” by his ex-wife Ruth Langsford’s announcement of his split.
As the TV presenter thanked his fans for their support following the revelation that they had split after 27 years, friends of the star said he was “angry and bewildered” by his decision to share the news.
He learned of their plan just hours before the statement was released through Langsford’s spokesperson on Saturday afternoon, saying: “Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes have confirmed that their marriage has ended and they are in the process of divorcing.”
The announcement was described as a “joint statement.”
A friend of Holmes told the Mail: ‘Eamonn was shocked, it was terrible for him.

Eamonn and Ruth (pictured together in 2007) presented This Morning together for 14 years and were a fixture on the show both on Fridays and during school holidays.
‘He literally found out very shortly before it was published; We are talking about hours.
“It all seems a bit strange given that the statement said they hoped to keep the relationship amicable.”
‘Eamonn wanted nothing to do with this, he saw no reason why you would publish that statement.
‘It was entirely written and signed by Ruth and her team.
“In the end I had no power over it.”
The Mail can also reveal that Holmes has been gushing about how “very bad” things have been with his wife in recent weeks, while his GB News colleagues said they have been worried about him lately.
They said he had been “depressed” but attributed it to being in pain.

The Mail can also reveal that Holmes (pictured, in his first days as presenter) has been gushing about how “very bad” things have been with his wife in recent weeks, while his GB News colleagues said They’ve been worried about him lately.
Holmes was pictured leaving GB News on his first day at the broadcaster in 2022. One of his colleagues said last night: “Eamonn used to be the bolshy star of daytime TV, he was a confident and loud member of the team.”

The Northern Ireland TV presenter publicly addressed the split for the first time yesterday morning on his GB News morning show, while still wearing his wedding ring on his left finger.
Alongside his co-presenter Isabel Webster, the broadcaster, 64, said: “Just before we move on, we would like to thank people for their support of Ruth and me over the last few days regarding the news of our separation.”
“We greatly appreciate your support to both of us.”
