And Eamonn Holmes burst into tears Sunday night as he paid tribute to his late father, 31 years after his untimely death, and recalled how his mother once urged him to take money from his father to help him feel needed. .

In the heartbreaking clip, Eamonn said of his incredibly generous father: “He’s been gone for 31 years now, but I still miss him every day.
“I can’t remember my late father without remembering how he always wanted to take care of… even when I had a successful career. I think he was needed like all of us.’
Describing a vivid memory of his father, as he swallowed the tears, Eamonn said: ‘All he did was give us a big hug, or whatever…

“All he did was say things like, ‘Do you need money?’ I was on Ulster Television making £12,000 a year. He wasn’t making £12,000 a year or anything close to it.
One day my mother said, ‘Let him give you some money’. I did. I was like ‘yes daddy’ and he would give me twenty pounds.’
Earlier this year, Eamonn tweeted about his father’s passing, saying: “How my father died was a particularly horrific experience for my mother, my younger brother and his friend who were all in the car.”
In October 2018, the TV star opened up about the panic attacks he had after his father’s sudden death – when he was terrified he would suffer the same fate.
Eamonn revealed that he once had a live panic attack while presenting breakfast television, which he struggled to cover up, and even had to be hospitalized twice.

He explained: ‘I’ve had a number of panic attacks, thank goodness it was about 27 years ago.
“Like you, I thought I was going to die. My coping strategy was to realize I’m not going to die, but I would never have linked it to a mental health problem.”
Eamonn realizes afterwards that he may have suffered them because of his father’s untimely death.
He continued, “I think looking back on it, it was a result of my father’s sudden death and not being able to say goodbye to him. I associated being away with bad things.’
