Philadelphia Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni and Washington Commanders tight end Zach Ertz had to be separated after colliding in last Sunday’s game, it is claimed.
The Philadelphia Inquirer said Thursday that the duo had to be kept apart by Eagles safety Dom DiSandro – affectionately known as “Big Dom.”
The incident was reportedly caused by Sirianni disagreeing with how hard Ertz high-fived him at the end of the game and responded by mocking him for only taking one catch.
“We both said ‘congratulations’ to each other,” Sirianni said after the game, with the Inquirer simply quoting Ertz: “We just exchanged holiday pleasantries and kept it moving.”
The Inquirer’s “Uncovering the Birds” podcast reported that Sirianni later apologized to Ertz — a player he once briefly coached with the Eagles — via Zoom.
It is not the first time that Sirianni has been involved in a controversial incident this season.

In October, the Eagles’ head coach apologized to fans after appearing to respond to firing taunts by covering his ear and yelling back at fans sitting nearby.
When he apologized, he took his children to the press conference.
The Eagles lead the Commanders at the top of the AFC East with two wins and can clinch the division with a win over the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday.
But in a close game against the Commanders, Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts went out in the first quarter with a concussion that will likely cause him to miss the Cowboys game this weekend.
Ertz and the Commanders, meanwhile, need to win from here to have any hope of knocking the Eagles off the top of the NFC East.
The Commanders host the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday before closing out the season against the Dallas Cowboys.
