EA CEO: The Activision Blizzard deal is not material to us

Date:

The acquisition of Activision Blizzard by Xbox remains a hot topic after the UK’s Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) decided to block the deal, but Electronic Arts CEO Andrew Wilson doesn’t seem overly concerned whether the deal goes through or off.

Speaking at EA’s investor meeting, Wilson said that EA is “Microsoft’s largest partner” and claimed it is “the number one publisher on the Xbox system”.

Whether or not a deal goes through is not material to us, Wilson concluded. We believe we have all the tools necessary to continue to navigate the future and lead the future of entertainment and competition in the market regardless of whether this deal happens or not, and whether it does or not, we will continue to do so. To be the number one publisher on the Microsoft platform.”

. Wilson’s comments come amid ongoing speculation that EA may also be acquired in the future. EA was reportedly approached by Comcast, but the deal fell through due to disagreements over price and structure.
