An electric bicycle cyclist died after crashing into a flatbed trailer parked in a protected bike lane in Brooklyn, police said Sunday.
Ricardo Antonio Sicajau, 51, was traveling south on Kent Ave. near Domino Park in Brooklyn when he collided with the trailer parked near South 1st St. around 6 a.m. Saturday, police said. Sicajau lived in Sunset Park, about seven miles away.
He suffered severe head trauma and died at the scene, police said.
An NYPD spokeswoman said Sunday that Sicajau, who was not wearing a helmet, was walking through a construction site to stay in the bike lane.
The barrier separating the bike lane and the street appears to have been in place since 2014, according to photos of the street on file with Google.
Police officers were still investigating the accident on Sunday, police said.
