If you're looking for the ultimate upgrade to your old hair dryer, then you're at home at Dyson – the latest version of its Supersonic hair dryer is finished in 23.75 carat gold.
The Dyson Supersonic 23.75 Karat Gold is finished with gold leaf, of which Dyson says it has been applied by hand using traditional gilding techniques & # 39 ;. Under the bling exterior, however, it is the same as the regular Supersonic, which is available in a range of colors.
The company warns that the gold leaf is sensitive and that over time the red base of the hair dryer begins to appear – but apparently this is deliberate and not a defect – instead it is something that makes every hair dryer unique for its owner & # 39 ;.
Fortunately, the product comes with a red Gesso presentation case to help preserve the finish. You can watch a video of the delicate production process on the Dyson website.
It is pricey
So how much does a gilded hair dryer cost you? In the US it is priced at $ 500 – that's $ 100 more than the regular Supersonic. At the moment it is only available through the American website of Dyson – availability and prices for the UK and Australia are not yet confirmed, but you can expect a similar premium above the £ 300 / AU $ 499 price of the regular Supersonic.
