Stacey Solomon has been praised by fans after a heartfelt episode of Renovation Rescue saw her transform a couple’s home after a horrible few years.

In the second episode of the new Channel 4 series, which aired on Wednesday, the presenter visited Darryl and Jo in south Devon after their passion project turned into an absolute nightmare.

Between dodgy builders, redundancies and a terrible health scare, the couple were left heartbroken after spending a whopping £300,000 renovating the house.

And when Stacey met the couple, she was tasked with making the final £30,000 of the couple’s budget go further while helping the couple work out how they could do some of the remaining work themselves.

In one emotional episode, Jo broke down in tears as they sat in the (almost) finished house, reflecting: “It’s been so horrible and you kind of miss out a little bit too, but to be able to share it now with the kids and just enjoy it. We love it.” it will take a little time to realize we can do it.’

Darryl and Jo had remodeled three houses together, so they were no strangers to the renovation process.

However, after starting the process in 2020 After a few months they realized that not everything was as it seemed and things quickly turned ugly.

Darryl explained: “First of all, we had leaks in the roof, which meant we had water all over the floor.”

Jo then added: “But when that started happening, we also started to wonder what else was really going on.”

After calling a building inspector, the couple discovered that much of the work that had already been completed did not meet building codes and they had to start the work again from scratch.

However, by then the couple had already handed over £127,000.

‘All that money we had paid, it just died. Straight into the bin,” Darryl confessed.

And if that wasn’t difficult enough, the couple also experienced an especially difficult year when Darryl was fired and Jo suffered a serious health scare when she contracted Covid.

‘At the beginning of April I had Covid and I was actually very unwell, in the end I was out of work for about four months, I was in hospital about three times. Oxygen, cylinders at home and they actually left us six,” Jo admitted.

Fighting back tears, Darryl added: “It was horrible because you didn’t know… it’s hard to talk about.” You didn’t know where you were [Jo] were going. You took her to the hospital and had to say goodbye to her, it was a challenging moment. It was difficult.’

At the start of the episode the house looked completely run down, however by the end the couple, with the help of Stacey, had transformed the property into a stunning space with an incredible open plan kitchen and living room.

‘Oh my god, I’m so happy for you, I want to move!’ Stacey shouted when she saw the final result.

Almost on budget, the presenter explained: “I think you will probably have saved a minimum of between £6,000 and £7,000 by making your own furniture, wallpapering, decorating, fitting your kitchen and laying all the flooring.” That is incredible.

‘When I first met you, had you fallen in love with this house? Have you fallen in love with him again?

Crying Jo explained: ‘It’s like moving on, it’s like the next step. And it’s been so horrible that you get a little lost too.

‘But now being able to share it with the children and just enjoy it. It will take us a little time to realize that we can do it.’

Darryl added: “What we have here is something special and something that is us and it’s been a journey but this is the start for us to look at it in a different way.”

Fans were overcome with emotion after watching the episode as they praised Stacey and her efforts.
