I recently moved to Australia from the US and had to change my NAME because it means something completely different in Australia.

An American woman living in Australia changed her name after discovering what Down Under means.

Devyn Hales22-year-old from California now goes by the name Dev to avoid being associated with the popular mystery meat placed in sandwiches.

Ms Hales, who is in Australia on a one-year work visa, told WhatsNew2Day Australia that she introduced herself to a group of boys on St Patrick’s Day and they started making fun of her.

“They started laughing and when I asked them why, they told me Devyn is processed meat.”

Publish in Tik Tok on Friday, he said: “It’s similar to nonsense, so now I introduce myself as Dev.”

Many Americans with the same name were horrified.

“Tell me the name thing isn’t true,” wrote a woman named Devon.

Another said: “Wait oh my god my name is Devin and that happened to me too.”

“My name is Devin. I didn’t know that’s what they called a stiff,” a third added.

Hales also talked about other oddities he’s noticed in Australia.

‘So everyone wears flip flops. I feel like I’m the only one who has ‘thongs’ (flip-flops) that have that little thing in the middle of the big toe. “Everyone wears flip flops,” he said.

“Everyone wears shorts that go to their knees, that’s a big thing here.”

But despite the differences, Ms Hales said her video was a lot of fun and she loves being in Australia.

“The coffee is also much better in Australia.”
