Dustin Johnson's LIV 4 Aces golf team is embroiled in legal drama with the University of Alabama

The University of Alabama has filed an opposition to a trademark application filed by LIV Golf’s ‘4 Aces’ team.

According Sports law attorney John NucciThe school argues that “the design of the 4 Aces contains the “same literal element” as that of Alabama.”

The filing adds that the 4 Aces’ lettering style “is visually similar and creates a similar commercial impression” to the Alabama design.

Both LIV Golf and the University of Alabama did not respond to DailyMail.com’s request for comment on the matter.

The 4 Aces team is led by captain Dustin Johnson and features Pat Perez, Patrick Reed and Harold Varner III.

This is not the first time LIV Golf has faced trademark challenges.

Last year, Cool Brands Supply, the Argentine company that owns the intellectual property rights to Fallen Footwear, sued Phil Mickelson’s HyFlyers GC.

The company said Mickelson’s HyFlyers logo was “nearly identical” to the shoe brand’s trademarked logo from 20 years ago.

Mickelson’s team eventually modified its logo in December 2023 to prominently display the letter “H” instead of the previous logo, which was a mirrored pair of “F” letters.

In addition to the lawsuit against Cool Brands, German sports brand Adidas filed a lawsuit against LIV Golf in September 2023, alleging that the golf course’s logo “incorporates three stripes in a manner that is confusingly similar to the Adidas marks in appearance and overall commercial impression.”
