Ana de Armas said Robert De Niro owes one of the best surprises to her father.
During her opening monologue op Saturday Night Livethe Cuban-born actress recalled working with the Raging bull actress one day on the set while filming her first movie in the US, Hands of stone.
“He told me, ‘Maybe I’ll go to Cuba soon. When I do, I’ll say hello to your family,” she said. “He even asked me for their phone number.”
The Blond star said she actually completely forgot about the GoodFellas actor the song, but “one day out of the blue I get a call from my dad.”
She explained to the SNL public that her father was “hysterical” and that she asked what was wrong, but that his answer was not what she expected. de Armas said her father told her, “Robert De Niro just came to visit me at work.”
She was shocked by his reaction, but thought it was such a nice gesture from De Niro. She added, “I’ve been so lucky to work with so many supporting actors.”
The Knives out actress, who received her first Oscar nomination for her portrayal of Marilyn Monroe in Netflix’s Blondmade her SNL hosting debut on Saturday night after what she called a “magic year.” She said her father “would be so proud of me and would be proud to see me on this stage today.”
Musical guest Karol G also made her SNL debut.
