A new video promoting Vice President Kamala Harris for president is making waves as it appeals to men by redefining masculinity in “shameful” terms.
The video shows several men declaring their interest in “manly clichés” such as bears, drinking bourbon, eating steaks, fixing cars, and lifting weights.
But he goes on to say that only “masculine enough” men will back a woman for president, like Kamala Harris, prompting criticism on social media from users who called it a “train wreck.”
The ad shows men with horses, motorcycles, in a mechanic’s shop, sitting in a truck, lifting weights or leaning against a fence.
“I’m sick of so-called dominant men who belittle and control women just to make them feel more powerful,” says one man. “That’s not how my mom raised me.”
‘Do you think I’m afraid to rebuild a carburetor? “I eat carburetors for breakfast,” says another man.
‘If a woman wants to be president. I hope you have the guts to look me straight in the eyes and accept my full support,” says one of them.
“If they want to control their bodies, I tell them to do it,” another man said.
It appears to be a genuine attempt by Harris supporters to generate interest in Kamala Harris among men on social media.
It was shared on the VoteSaveAmerica social media pages, hosted by the Crooked.com group that runs Pod Save America.
The video was produced and directed by comedy writer Jacob Reed, former writer for Funny or Die and the Jimmy Kimmel Show.
Different male actors explain why they vote for Kamala Harris
“It almost seems like Trump, JD Vance and all the people in the MAGA world are afraid of women,” Reed said in an interview with Fast Company. “There’s a subtext that if you’re trying to control women so much, there’s something about your masculinity that needs to feel challenged.”
Reed admitted that the first version was too reprimanding, but tried to make it less condescending.
“I think this resonates with people because it’s a view of masculinity that we see in our lives but is rarely reflected in the media, especially when some of the loudest voices on the subject are the most insecure and grandiose,” he wrote in your Substack.
Reed explained that he was inspired to make the video during the Democratic National Convention while watching Harris’ husband, Doug Emhoff, talk about his wife.
“I think the left is finally finding its footing on how to talk about masculinity; I think it’s time for a redefinition of what it means to be a man in America, and I hope this campaign can begin to shape that conversation,” he said. . saying.
The ad sparked ridicule online from people who couldn’t believe it was real.
“I can’t really tell if this is a sincere attempt at a Kamala ad or a satire of the disgraceful attempts to give men a ‘permission structure’ to vote for Kamala,” Instagram user Matthew Galanty wrote. ‘Which is it?’
“I present to you the most embarrassing political ad ever created,” wrote Josh Walkos on X.com.
“One of the most embarrassing parts of this train wreck is that they are a bunch of beta actors who have never dressed like this or done these things.” wrote Republican agent John Cardillo.
‘Who wrote this script?’ asked Conservative writer Emily Zanotti. ‘Have you literally met a single male human being?’
The ad even drew ridicule from the Trump campaign.
‘The Soy really missed the mark on this one!!!’ Trump senior adviser Jason Miller wrote on social media.
The announcement also piqued the interest of Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene.
‘Kamala’s “men” are not real men,’ wrote Rep. Marjorie Taylor Green. ‘The majority do not have enough strength to grow, build or bring food to the women’s homes. They will get you pregnant, abandon you and tell you to abort your baby.’
